I used to be terrified of spontaneous combustion when I was a kid, now it would be a good excuse to get out of work.

The quicksand one is funny to me. I went on a hike within city limits in a bit of a ravine after it rained. Honestly quicksand didn’t even occur to me. Until in less than a second I was up to my knees and I was crawling towards sturdier ground.
